Bremen

Bremen is a town of about 450,000 inhabitants in the North of Germany. It is situated at the river Weser and used to be famous for its ports and shipbuilding, which is no longer true, and for the worst weather on the German mainland, which seems to be true in spite of the changing world climate.

Nowadays the town is mostly known for beer, chocolate, coffee and the likes of it, although it seems to be gaining importance as a place for tourists to go.

Living here is really nice and nobody ever seems to move away - at least not very far - if they don't have to. If people move out of the town itself they go into the surrounding areas, which unfortunately belong to another "Bundesland", Niedersachsen or Lower Saxony if you prefer that. The trouble is that these people no longer pay their taxes in Niedersachsen, so Bremen is quite poor in itself, but this doesn't keep anyone from squandering money on things they gather will impress people from other parts of the world to come here and in turn squander money so that Bremen might become richer...

You can always spot people from Bremen travelling abroad - at least in pubs - from the fact that they always order Beck's Bier. Then we point at the key on the label and tell everybody who's listening (or isn't, as a matter of fact) that this is where we come from. ><>
