That sounds like a good recipe, Gnomon. My mother in law used to serve it with Spätzle - didn't TC write an entry about Spätzle?
I usually serve it with dumplings or pasta (Farfalle, Penne, Maccaroni), or boiled potatoes. Never with rice, but then I guess that's typically German.
Giving the ingredients for eight persons is fine, you don't want to do all the cutting etc too often, and any leftovers are fine fro freezing so you can have a quick goulash another day.
