Amfitryon Cafe and Bar
Amfitryon is about 2km west of Oslo's centre. It's not in the buzzing part of Oslo and is surrounded by residential houses and offices. Nevertheless, it's probably one of the best cafes in the city. It's cheap (a meal is about 80 NOK, or about 10 USD - and that's not bad for Oslo), and very good (they spend time making the side salad, with olives and superb dressing). They serve beer too.
They have an eclectic music collection at just the right volume (is that too subjective?) and the staff are friendly.
The menu is a little limited but what they do do they do well. It's open from 0700 to 2400 during the week too, and (I think) from 1100 on Sundays.
In some ways it has a split personality - from breakfast cafe to night time bar with hip music - but it does this transition smoothly so that you feel at home whatever time you visit.
If you want to find it, the easiest way is too look it up on Norway's Yellow Pages site
