It's a marker you use when you're quoting someone, and you want/need to point out that the spelling and/or grammar errors are those of the original speaker/writer, and not of you, the person doing the quoting.
It's often used in newspaper and magazine writing. When I've seen people use it online, it's usually been in an effort to point out flaws in someone else's writing.

Sic (Latin: thus; so)
Used to indicate that a quoted passage, especially one containing an error or unconventional spelling, has been retained in its original form or written intentionally.
