but how do I find out which sub-ed has the terrible task of looking after my EG entry?

Do a search on your article title.

You should find two. One is the one you wrote and the other (which should have either 'pending' or 'recommended' next to it), will be the other, the subeds name will be next to the article, along with you.

Also, it should appear in your articles list once it has gone pending.

If you look for your entry using the search engine, you'll find the version of it with 'recommended' next to it- this is the one that'll become the EG entry, and has the sub's name on it. I assume you're talking about your Lord of the Rings entry? In that case, the sub is The Apprentice.

Just one extra thing to remember, if the editor listed is one of the in-house team (ie, Natalie, Paully or myself), this means that it hasn't yet been allocated to a sub - the name of whoever accepted the Scout recommendation appears in that box until the entry is handed over to a Sub. The only exception to this is if the sub is listed as 'The h2g2 Editors', which means it's been edited in-house.

Okay, say Paully is handling Scouts Recommendations this week. He accepts an entry and it goes into the queue for sub-editing. While it's there, Paully's name will be given as the Sub-editor, even though he's not working on it, he just accepted it.

Once a Sub becomes available, we allocate the entry to them, at which point, their name automatically replaces Paully as the given Sub-editor.

Aaaaaah!! Right! Now I understand....this brain of mine doesn't work very well on a Wednesday. it's half way between weekends and gets terribly upset!
