How to Make the Simplest, Tastiest Shortbread Cookies

0 Conversations

There are few things in this world more homey and pleasant than a tray of freshly-baked, still-warm cookies. Even better are a tray of freshly-baked, still-warm cookies which were relatively simple to prepare, required very few ingredients and taste good, too.

You can't make cookies much simpler, or tastier, than these (hence the title). Of course, they aren't exactly low-fat, but the best things in life usually aren't.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups butter (about three cubes)
3/4 cup sugar
4 cups flour
A Small Dash of Vanilla

Directions:
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Mix together butter and sugar (it will go quickest if you melt the butter first), add your dash of vanilla. Once stirred together, mix in the flour. Then flatten out your dough (with a greased roller or with hands), cut it into cookie shapes (cirles, christmas trees - whatever). Bake at 325 to 350 degrees until lightly brown. You can add a little variety by pressing an occasional raisin, chocolate chip or M&M into the tops of the cookies.
