Boycott Beijing Olympics
Created | Updated Apr 9, 2008
Beijing hosted the Olympics, and nobody watched?
The WHOLE WORLD has the power,
to support Tibet,
to support Darfur,
and to BOYCOTT the 2008 Olympics.
It's a sacrifice.
People enjoy watching their athletes win.
NOTHING IMPORTANT HAS EVER BEEN ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT SOME SACRIFICE.
And, as sacrifices go, this is a wee small one.
NOT watching the television is not comparable
to the sacrifices of the Tibetan people.
Tibet was a Sovereign Nation, in my mother's lifetime.
Tibetans are NOT Chinese.
NOT watching the television is not comparable
to the 200,000 dead, in Darfur.
China is supporting the Sudanese government
with arms, in exchange for oil.
If you feel strongly about justice,
if you object to the genocide in Darfur,
if you believe Tibet should not suffer totalitarianism,
JUST DON'T WATCH!!
Post YOUR commitment, to boycott the Beijing Olympics, anywhere and everywhere you can.
Spread the word.
The Internet can be controlled,
It is, in China.
It can't be silenced, everywhere.
If advertising sponsors get the message, that there is a WORLDWIDE boycott, and very few people will SEE their advertisements...
why would they pay the exhorbitant fees, for advertising time,
during the Olympics?
They wouldn't.
This is grass-roots activism, friends!
All it takes is all of us, NOT doing something.
That is not very difficult.
I WILL NOT WATCH THE BEIJING OLYMPICS!
Please join me!
What if... Beijing hosted the Olympics, and nobody watched?
I encourage you to post this in your blogs, on other fora, everywhere, on the internet, in every language you know.
Especially Mainland Chinese.
SPREAD THE WORD!!
I, in protest against the repressive Chinese government,
choose to exercise my free will, and NOT watch the 2008 Olympics.
I can hear the sport bits on the news.
I will NOT see any advertisements broadcast during aforementioned Olympics.
SPREAD THE WORD!!
There is still time to make this a global boycott!
We have an opportunity to do something GOOD.
All we have to do is make the commitment, and spread the word.
So...
Phone your gran.
Put up flyers at your uni.
Speak up, in your house of worship.
Put up placards in your windows.
Email your colleagues.
Blog this.
Broadcast this.
U-Tube this.
Explain it to your children, so they can bring their mates in.
Explain it to your parents, so they can participate.
Chat up anyone you think will listen, online, and offline.
Copy and paste this message and email it to your entire address-book.
Start a topic-thread, at as many news-sites as possible.
ONE PERSON is a raindrop.
Internet-Activism is a HURRICANE.
I am one person.
So is Bishop Desmond Tutu.
Likewise the Dalai Lama.
SO ARE YOU.
Together, we might just achieve the best possible solution:
The Athletes compete.
We see events on our local news.
China is not REWARDED for repression.
Politicians don't have to commit themselves.
Power to the people!
