Why do the clocks go forward?

0 Conversations

Can anyone give me a reason for the annual task of putting clocks forward an hour in spring? As on Fri the sun rose at 5.30 GMT (time approx). This morning after the clocks went forward the sun was rising at 6.30 (approx). I know it will get dark 'later' tonight than before the clocks went forward. But would it make any difference if we just left the clocks alone, and on GMT? Which is after all the time as according to the Sun!

Of course this is all reversed in autumn when th clocks go back. It seems to me a waste of time, and resources (someone must be paid to put the clocks back/forward on public buildings) with little or no advantage, especially in the modern world. Where lights burn day and night in many offices, shops and factories.

What does anyone think???
