INDEPENDENCE FOR CORNWALL
Created | Updated Mar 19, 2008
I have one grandparent from Wendron and one from Illogan, but the other half of the family are English. They have always lived just a few miles from the Tamar, though, so perhaps they gained a few genes from wandering Cornishmen.
When and where will DNA testing take place? And what proportion of Cornish DNA will qualify someone for citizenship?
If I can qualify, I can see there will be great opportunities in the years to come. There will be work on building the wall along the east bank of the Tamar. Bus drivers will be needed to bring home the exiles of the Cornish diaspora and to take the English back to their own country. Writers will work on translating and rewriting everything from road signs to income tax forms. And what about the English people’s property in Cornwall – will they be forced to sell it back at low prices, or will true Cornish men and women be able just to take it over?
I hope I can be accepted into the independent Duchy. I am short, stumpy and swarthy, and I don’t like spending money; no one would know I’m not a full-blooded Cornishman.
