The Main Characters :

Flavia Gemina - Flavia Gemina is the daughter of the the sea captain, Marcus Flavius Geminus. She lives in the port of Ostia and was born there. She can be described as bossy and big-headed (at times) but also has a strong sense for justice and is very kind-hearted and very clever. She hates not knowing something. She has a dog called Scuto.

Nubia (Shepenwepet) - Nubia was born in the country Nubia and lived with her family in tents. Nubia is a desert country south of Egypt. In the night, slave traders attacked her family and she watched them being murdered. She was sold as a slave in Ostia and bought by Flavia to be her friend. She has a dog called Nipur. She is loyal and kind and when she plays her flute or sings she can tame wild animals.

Jonathan ben Moredcai - Jonathan was born in Jerusalem and is Jewish but he, his father and his sister Miriam fled when he was 18 months old. He has a dog called Tigris. He is very much a pessimist (always looking on the bad side of things) and thinks everything is his fault.

Lupus - Lupus (which means wolf in Greek) is Greek but for a long time he lived as a beggar boy in Ostia, staying in the graveyard. He was born on Symi, a Greek Island. He is mute (but in the TV series it changes how he became mute as it was too gruesome) He is sneaky and crafty and good at sneaking up on people. He has a fiery temper.
