Bank Charges

It seems bank charges in the Uk at least are... shall we say.. umm annoying?
Having gone overdrawn by £20, I got hammered by a standing order non payment charge, an overcharge charge, a per day use charge, a charge for the letter telling me charge and finally, I also had to pay intrest on the ammount overdrawn.
Whilst I admit that it was my fault I went overdrawn, why oh why did my bank see fit to say yes to nearly £100-00 in charges?
(Which, by the way nearly made me go overdrawn....)
Oh well, perhaps next time I will get paid in cash?
