Nightlife in and around Weilheim
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
Um... basically it´s quite boring for people who want real night action like club dancing and stuff. For all these purposes I recommend going to Munich, about 50 km away. But if you can be satisfied with good ambience and a quiet evening with some friends, there in fact are some good locations for that. Above all, German beer, especially bavarian beer, is without question the best in the whole world. Ask a Canadian or a Chinese or whoever you meet. It really makes your nightlife alive around here! So visiting my country is worth after all.
Starting with the "Dachsbräu", a brewery next to my door, this is where they make REAL good Beer in Weilheim. If the wheather is fine, you can spend all day in the Biergarten (beer-garden?) and enjoy in the shadow of a chestnut tree. Another good hint for Biergarten fans is the "Kloster-(Monastery-)biergarten in Polling, a small village, three km away. Sitting there is really great, with the outlook of the hundreds-of-years-old monastery builing!!
At the beginning of the evening you should leave the Biergarten again, because it gets colder anyway, and ao much for Bavarian culture. It is time to change to a pub.
The probably best-known place in town is the "Schildbürger", a bar near th heart of the town. They serve fantastic cocktails and make REALLY GOOD baguettes. You can get Guinness there if you like and a very good beer, especially the "Dunkles" (dark) from the famous brewery of Kaltenberg. The place is mostly visited by youths. They show MTV and VIVA on two TV sets, but the music is always CD. It might be a bit too loud for quiet conversation there.
The next place to go is "Hänsel´s". Especially if you DO like quiet conversation, the place is fantastic for you. Beautiful pieces of art hanging on the wall there. Great food, too (recommending the tuna toast and the shrimp salad) and great cocktails as well. You get a fairly big variety of drinks to order. The visitors are more of the older kind, about thirties up most of them. But don´t bother! The folks there are so nice, it´s a real lovely place to go for relaxing. The music´s always low.
Going to Habach, about 16 km southward, you´ll find the "Village", a (indeed) world-famous Blues bar! Its small stage has seen Deep Purple and Mother´s Finest and many others. Features mostly local Blues and Rock Celebs and bands. Pitifully, food and drinks are no more than average in most cases, but the music is always worth a visit! Open Jam Session every Thursday! Bring your axe!!
Hum, hope I didn´t write too much for the first time. Hope you enjoyed my entry and drop by if you can!!
Bye!
