The Lion - New Basford, Nottingham UK

3 Conversations

Situated on Mosley Street in the New Basford part of Nottingham is the Lion pub. A fine selection of well kept, hand-pulled independent beers are available and live music of some sort takes place most nights.

Thursday night is an "open mike" night for local talent. There is a singer-songwriter/folky theme, although this is by no means an exclusive folk night. The performances oscillate between nervy optimism and really quite fantastic (less often but by no means unheard of). A number of regular performers are genuine characters, including a gentleman from Monserat called Saltfish John. According to pub rumour, he is the only person anybody has heard of who has had his drum kit destroyed by a volcano.
