Mathematical Transformations

0 Conversations

In mathematics a transformation refers to the the changing of any geometric shape, (Shapes, lines, etc.) by using any of the following methods:

1) Translation: When a shape is moved, while maintaining its shape and rotation.

2) Reflection: When a shape is moved to look as if reflected in a mirror, all points are in opposite positions as to original shape.(eg. < becomes >)

3) Rotation: when a shape is moved around a certain point.

4) Dilation: Chang in the size of the shape, all ratios must stay the same. (eg. increase on side of a square with sides of 4cm by 3cm, all sides must increase by 3cm)

Compositions of transformations refers to multiple transformations being applied to a shape.
