A Conversation for Talking Point: Ideas for Halloween
Bobbing for apples

Here in the states, a lot of Halloween parties take on aspects of harvest festivals. Thus, bobbing for apples is a hugely popular Halloween party game.
Method:
Fill a large tub with water.
Throw in a dozen apples.
Participants then try to get an apple out of the water using only their mouth. Winners get an apple - and *very* wet.
I never understood the point myself.

Or. . .to avoid the messy water you can hang apples by strings from the ceiling and try to catch them with only the mouth.

When I was growing up my folks always followed bobbing for apples with the flour game and treacle scones......
So first you get your guests to bob for apples getting nice and wet in the process.
Then they get to fish for coins hidden in a huge pile of flour on the floor in much the same way as bobbing for apples, i.e. using only their mouths with their hands behind their back.
Now covered in flour they have to eat scones (again no hands!) hung with string from the ceiling and covered in treacle which drips all over their floury faces.
Makes a bit of a mess...both of the kids and the house but is usually great fun and appreciated by all!

Or the version where coins are half-embedded in the hanging apples and have to be pulled out with the teeth..
