(That's a coincidence - I also mention beach volleyball in my latest entry)

Nice one, Big Al. smiley - ok

I used to visit Portland regularly in the 1980s - specifically the Admiralty Underwater Weapons Establishment. No idea if any of it survives today - a lot of it was moved & privatised in the 1990s. They had a big spy scandal at that establishment in 1961 which may be worth a mention:

I didn't pay much attention to Weymouth, but now you've written this I know what I missed. smiley - smiley

Opti,

Al can't add the Sooty link, because your Entry isn't yet a Guide Entry.

This is a lovely Entry smiley - smiley Have you got a photo that we may be able to incorporate with your Entry?

I've just read the Entry through and woud like to highlight these things:

Be careful of repetition. The sentence <> Is lovely in that it is colloquial, but repetition is usually avoided.

What happens when the waters are not calm? Have there been incidents to dispute the fact that the waters are calm?

Sorry what do you mean by (out of season only) ?

I wonder whether it had Emmily's beach cards too?

There are a few smelling errors oops I mean spelling mistakes too for example

Extremely is spelt exremely in your Entry and you have 'on' instead of 'one'.

This is coming together beautifully though. I am looking forward to the finished result. smiley - biggrin

Well, those colloqialisms I just carried over from those 2 Unedited Entries I filched, because they have a more relaxed style than I usually can conjure up. However, as you say, they just don't work for me and I may just rempove 'em.

bIT HARD TO INCLUDE JUST sOOTY WITHOUT MAKING PASSING MENTION OF OTHER Summer Acts that've been put on at the Pavion Theatre. In fact, I haven't even mentioned the PT at all smiley - erm...

smiley - sorry for shouting. Pesky keyboardnot doing as it's told smiley - grr

Good idea about Emmily's saucy picture postcards, though. I've made a link to that smiley - ok.

Well, I've put in a section, but it's just a 'holding para' at present while my brain works on trying to say something a little more eloquent and inspiring.

Hi Icy,

w.r.t, Portland, I've decided to only say what is essential about this (on account of its being at one end of Chesil Beach).

This is 'coz:

smiley - biro There's more than enought to say about Weymouth itself
smiley - biro Probably an Entry about Portland itself would make a nice compact Entry.
smiley - biro It gives someone else, with a different style and different interests, to write something about the same area.

A

Hi Opti,

I've been trying to think about how to incorporate Sooty and eventually hit upon,

'The Pavilion Theatre, Weymouth also saw the last curtain call of Sooty in 1989, following the death of Harry Corbett...', however on checking your Entry and the following (from The Scotsman', neither are clear that Harry Corbett actually had Sooty on that last appearance smiley - erm

'After Corbett suffered a heart attack at Christmas 1975, his younger son, Matthew, stepped into his shoes, eventually buying out his father for £35,000, and ultimately selling his interests to a subsidiary of the Bank of Yokohama for nearly £1.5 million. After relinquishing his TV performances Harry continued his one-man stage shows. He died in his sleep on 17 August 1989 after playing to a capacity audience at Weymouth Pavilion. '
