Hey all, checking in from the airport in Las Vegas. We leave in about 30 minutes. As is my habit I will update later when I have some sleep in my. Short version is that my hacking team came in third place, I attended some good discussions, andI am down $240.
I won't be rejoining the backroom chat due to some differneces in opinion that I wo't go in to here. I will say that I don't believe that Lil is using the term Libertarian fairly or correctly when talking about the jerk friend of her neighbor.
I will drop the subject if asked, as I don't want to pollute this salon with argument.

Camp finished, equipment packed away, sister's wedding attended (handy hint: do not combine roles of Chief Bridesmaid and Official Photographer, involves lots of running from camera to place in group while other people cheer and count down to self-timer activating), family lunch attended, friend's leaving do attended, blog read. Back later in the week. Need to sleep.

On behalf of the new pup please thank Zeppo and Gummo for the prezzie. I'll keep the tennis ball until he's big enough to start training. His predecesor could carry three all at once.
Ning N'All Another Monday morning dawns bright and sunny.

Lil, simply put I define a Libertarian as one who puts Liberty first. One who believes in the Constitution, one who defends personal freedoms, one who tries to minimize the impact of Government on our lives.
I can't see the person whom you had an altercation with putting aside his own personal ethics and defending the rights of someone who is doing something with which he disagrees. If he is personally morally opposed to something that was legal, I would doubt that he would fight to protect the interests of the other party.
When I say that I support Liberty, I mean *all* freedoms. Not just those that I like.

A Mr D with holes certainly wouldn't do! Maybe you should do the chain mail thingy with an orange button?

Marv, your definition of Libertarian is too broad, I could argue that it covers Republicans and Democrats too.
In my mind (given that I'm not a Libertarian and haven't read much of their publications), Libertarians seem like a cross of Republicans and Democrats. They have the fiscal and economic goals of Republicans - lower (or no) taxes, smaller government, laissez-faire economics relying on the "invisible hand". But then when you look at social or civil liberty issues, they seem more like Democrats - pro-choice, separation of church and state, keeping government out of the bedroom, etc.
At least the *stated* goals of Republicans and Democrats. How well either party has actually worked towards those goals is another matter entirely. Smaller government under the Republicans? Pththththth.

No need to worry about that Mr. Ross... I intend on spending as much of the event as possible wearing nothing but a kilt and woad.

d'E, you have hit on the biggest weakness of the Libertarian party (of which I am a member). There is no cohesiveness within the party because it's goals and ideals are too broad.

Welcome to all newcombers, and welcome back to all returness!
1978 I was studying at the Swedish equivalence of college. I think I was listening a lot to a Swedish band called Gyllene Tider - a brand new boy band where one of the members was Per Gessle, later better known as one half of the band Roxette together with Marie Fredriksson (Dressed for success, It must have been love, Listen to your heart etc).
I remember one girl in my class at school having a rather humorous T-shirt. One of the boy band's songs was titled 'I want to feel your body against mine' and this was printed on the front of the shirt, follwed by... - and on the back side, the sentence was continued with '...but was yourself first!' combined with the logotype for a very old and well known soap factory (manufacturing and still today equivalent with baby soap, baby oil and other baby hygiene stuff)!
*collapses on sofa with a severe attack of backlogitis*
