I might have a square left in my pocket. We could plant it and let it grow into a toffee tree.

How long would that take?

Overnight, if C S Lewis is to be believed.

At the beginning of the Magician's Nephew, Digory plants a toffee in the ground, and it grows into a toffee tree. But this is only because the world was created the day before and is still *bursting* with life...smiley - smiley assuming thats what you were asking there, Betsy!

Darn beat me to it. The Magicians Nephew BTW is the first chronologically, in both time frames. Often overlooked as most peolple plunge straight into The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The fact the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was written and published first confuses the issue. smiley - smiley

Precisely. But as CS was born and lived around here I'm not going to question the logic of his publishing order. After all I could mention Star Wars. the Godfather. Foundation. etc as other examples of prequels being written.

Note to self. CS Lewis is a Belfast boy research. smiley - winkeye

Originally The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was published all by itself, but people started asking questions about how the white Witch got to Narnia in the first place... so he wrote the Magician's Nephew.

I thoroughly recommend his adult fiction too!
His interplanetary trilogy (Perelandra, Voyage to Venus and This Hideous Strength, I think) and The Screwtape Letters are all very wierd but extremely cool smiley - bigeyes
Speaking of literature, I've got a book called 'Six Days' by Nick Page, which is very much like the HHGTTG. It's set in the future on Earth and has very similar silly humour to Douglas Adams. It's almost as good!
