Philosophy on Earth has been a good excuse for not getting a proper job for as long as there have been proper jobs.
Visitors to Earth can often make quite a good living writing books and articles about how ridiculous life on Earth is and people will think it's deep and insightfull with a unique perspective. Since philosophy is essentially thinking about life the universe and everything, everyone does it all the time. However several prominent figures in Earths history have managed to become prominent by sitting around thinking and occasionally proclaiming something so deep and profound nobody understands it (that's how you tell how good it is , the fewer people who understand it the better it is).
