Professionism

1 Conversation

Definition: Discrimination on the basis of occupation.

Hypothesis 1: There is a fundamental agreement amongst H2G2 researchers that certain occupations are morally less worthy than others. Certain of these occupations are so frequently abused by their practitioners that the occupation itself is sufficient to prejudice people against all such practitioners.

Hypothesis 2: That occupations can be ranked in order of the social opprobium that they engender.

Experiment: Any responses to this entry will be statistically analysed and in the event of a significant agreement over a sufficiently large sample a definitive list will be appended.

I append my initial list as a working guide:

Media Advisor
Politician
Psychoanalyst
Bean Counter
Social Scientist
Educationalist (as opposed to educator)
Aromatherapist
Cleric
Non-executive director
Terrorist
