River Foyle, Ireland
Created | Updated Dec 2, 2006
While it is the River Foyle that enters the Atlantic near the city of Londonderry to tell the tale of this river is the tell the tale of seven rivers.
The River Foyle is the result of the confluence between Lifford, Co. Donegal, Ireland and Strabane, Co Londonderry, Northern Ireland of the Rivers Finn and Mourne. The Finn flows East across Donegal from Blue Stack to get to this confluence. The Mourne heads off towards Northern Ireland's second largest and gold bearing mountain range, the Sperrins. But soon we find it too is made up of two rivers the Derg and the Strule. While the Derg meanders to its head just acorss the border the Strule itself is the confluence of two further rivers at Omagh.
