Mobile Phone Ringtones
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
At the start of the 21st Centuary more and more people own mobile phones. Recent surveys have shown that nearly 50% of the UK population now owns one. This gave rise to the situation of being in public, a phone ringing, and 20 different people reaching into their pockets to see if it is their phone ringing.
To combat this increasing problem, phone manufacturers such as Nokia and Ericsson, introduced the idea of having a personalised rintone on your phone. Now it seems that people are having competitions between themselves to see who can have the most diverse ringtone. Common themes seem to be TV program theme tunes, the latest pop hit or a classical piece of music.
People are spending hours transcribing their favourite piece of music into a ringtone for their phone. However, the novelty soon wears off as someone else is discovered to have the same ringtone and a new ringotne is being devised almost instantly.
Such is the move towards "groovy" ringtones that these days, the only way to tell if your phone is ringing is to use the standard "ring-ring" that was originally supplied with the phone!!!!!
