Arthur Miller

0 Conversations

Arthur Miller was born on the 17th of October 1915 in New York. His fathers business had failed after the 1929 Stock Market crash so they could not afford to send Arthur to university. He worked for two years to earn money to go to college and in 1934 he went to the University of Michigan. During his time in college he wrote several award winning plays including No Villain but his first big play was All My Sons that opened in 1949. Millers next play, The Crucible, opened in 1953 in the middle of the McCarthy Era. It was written to show how ridiculous the trials where, but Miller couldn’t write about the trials themselves because he would be accused, so instead he wrote about the Salem witch trials which he thought where similar.
