A Conversation for Parsnips

This may sound like a dumb question, coming from an avid gardener, but are parsnips the root of the parsley plant?

No. They are two completely different plants. Although, looking at the similarity between the green bit of the parsnip (and/or carrot) and british (curly) parsley, perhaps there is some sort of link.

Parsnips. Hmmm. Well, there's only reference tp parsnips I can think of and it was in a history text book, in reference to the occasional good deeds of an Emperor in post-Mughal India: "... but good intentions butter no parsnips .." followed by a long list of this emperor's ill-conceived schemes for urban development (he forced everyone to move away to a site of his choice, conveniently named after himself. When the move turned out to be a miserable failure, he forced everyone to move back again).
Sorry! This is decidely drier and less interesting than a suspicious sausage in a bun.

Can we go somewhere peaceful next please Phil? I have my flag ready
Tip to anyone trying to pick up long threads and preferred them as one long list rather than in shorter (but quicker to load) bits which seem to randomly rearrange themselves. To get them how they were: Type &show=1000 at the end. It works!

I agree - somewhere very relaxing and not at all stressful... Where we going, Phil?

Good job we are not talking about turnips, that would have caused a stir. Does anyone know if parsnips are actually any good for you?

Munchkin Posted Jun 12, 2000
Vegetables are not good for you. No vegetable has ever helped me home from the pub. Well, apart from a sprout once, but there were reasons behind that.

Funny that, I had never noticed that I hadn't been helped home from the pub by a vegetable. Unless my brother counts as a vegetable, but that's not very kind or likely is it?
And a very intersting name, which Nolan's tune are you humming?

Now the parsnip incident is fading into a mellow memory, here for you is the all new tour stop 4. A place of quiet contemplation where what is planted is grown, but what is grown is not nessesarily what was planted. The tibeten dugout greenhouse ( http://www.h2g2.com/A313912 ) is one of those special places. The tour has parked by the main greenhouse at http://www.h2g2.com/F26109?thread=57779 feel free to wander the benches ( http://www.h2g2.com/A237881 ) and maybe even leave a cutting behind.
