Few people realize it, but these capricious beasts are the first form of artificial intelligence created on the planet Earth. They have the uncanny ability to scan the brain waves of their users and then determine from those scans when it would be most inconvenient to break down. So, when you are waiting for a particularly important e-mail (for example) do not be surprised if your Internet Service Provider chuckles a bit and refuses to let you in. The easiest way to avoid having your brain scanned is, of course, not to have a brain at all, a feat which can be rather difficult to acheive while continuing basic life processes. However, it is rumored that there are a great many masters of this art concentrated in Washington, D.C., New York City, and southern California.
