Not only are Laws confusing, road signs can be just as puzzling. This happened in Queensland a few years ago.
Driving on a bush road in an American friend's Volkswagen. He was driving.
"Where's the Factory?"
"What factory?"
"The sign back there said Ford"
"No, mate in Australia it means a creek (splash) crossing (stall)

You should have told him that it was the Australian spelling of fjord, and the he should be careful because the drop off was pretty steep. Heh. That would have really confused him.
By the way, would that friend, by any chance, be a guy named Tommy from Brisbane?
