Childhood

Curmanis' parents were killed when he was a small child. On his sixth birthday five drow warriors attacked his home and killed his mother and father. The only way he survived at all was because his mother and father told him to run while they stayed and fought the five drow warriors with their magical powers. Curmanis got away, although his sight was permanently destroyed. He is still able to move around because his magical capability allows him to feel where everything is, as well as this all of Curmanis'other senses have been increased greatly. On his way out of the house he found all of their animals had been slaughtered. Underneath their collapsed chook shed, which the drow warriors must have knocked over, was a baby wolf. Curmanis grabbed the little creature and ran for his life. For four months he lived in the forest, eating fruits off trees and berries off bushes he passed. During this time he taught the baby wolf, which he had named Faller, how to respond intelligently to him, up to the point that he was able to converse over with Faller what he thought they should do next. In his period of exile he started to think of Faller as his equal. After all, he was able to speak his language fluently and over two meters in length. After four months Curmanis got sick of living off fruit and berries, and decided to head into the village, where he reasoned that the drow warriors had probably given up looking for him, and started stealing from farms on the outside of the town. After a while he became more confident and started to take from shops in the main street. This continued for three years. Some of the shop owners gave him the food for free because they felt sorry for him, the way he was dressed. He never let anyone see his face, afraid that if they recognized him they might tell everyone he was alive. Then somehow the drow warriors would find out and come back to kill him. He still had nightmares about that horrific night when they killed his parents.

The Magicians Guild

On his tenth birthday Curmanis went into town at night and went to the bakers, who left some bread out for him each month. This time though, was different. There was usually just a plain loaf of bread on a plastic plate. This time, however, there was a note on top of the bread. It said the following:

The Clock Tower, Tomorrow, Midnight

There was no signature, just the message. Curmanis was still distrustful after the death of his parents. But he was a very curious child, and against Faller's protests, went to the Clock Tower the following night. Curmanis and Faller arrived at The Clock Tower just after night fall and hid in a clump of bushes across the road and waited for the note writer to turn up.

When midnight came upon them, a figure appeared beneath the clock tower and, looking at the bush Curmanis and Faller were hiding in, called out "Come out, Curmanis." Curmanis was very puzzled by this, but thought that there was no way he could run away from a Magician, and slowly and nervously crept out of the bushes and walking over to him. The Magician said to Curmanis "Do not worry, I mean you no harm. My name is Lord Craxus Nec'roy. I was good friends with your parents before they passed away. I have been watching you these past few years, stealing food from the shops and farms." Curmanis was still not sure. "Why are you here?" he asked. "Because I would like to train you in the arts of magic. I see great potential in you, and this is not a surprise, your parents being the great Magicians they were." Curmanis then asked "Why did you not tell me this sooner?" Craxus replied "Because you needed to learn to live of the land. It was a test, to see if you could cope with the environment, in your condition. When you develop into a more powerful Magician, you must survive for years off the land, travelling to places to defend and protect them." Curmanis did not know wether or not to believe Craxus when he told him this. Curmanis told Craxus "I will only go with you if Faller, my only friend can accompany me through my training." Craxus answered him "Then he best be coming with us, then."

Curmanis was taken under the wing of Craxus himself, Craxus having been very close friends with his parents. Curmanis was instructed in enchanting, offensive spells, alchemy and elemental spells, since his mother (Sheila Heidi) specialized in The Elements and his father (Valentino Heidi) specialized in battle type magic. Curmanis became a Novice at the age of seventeen and, wanting to honour his parents through his magic, studied all types of magic, allowing him to honour them through his spells. Curmanis' staff, his weapon of choice, also helps him while walking.

When the Dark Alliance was in its early beginnings, Curmanis was a new Adept. He was one of the Magicians sent out to deal with the collections of demons, lizardmen, and other evil creatures that were grouping together. Other Magicians were in doubt of his abilities because of his blindness. Curmanis was treated like a little boy by them. One night while he was asleep when the group of four other Adepts he was a part of was ambushed by ten Iskars. The Iskars used there own magic to knock the other three unconscious. The Iskars then captured them all, tying their hands behind their back to prevent them from using magic. Their orders were to take prisoner so they could use their powers for evil bidding. With Curmanis, however, they just thought he was a townsperson that was accompanying the Magicians through the forest. The lizardmen left him his staff, thinking he needed it to move around and find his way. Curmanis summoned Faller, who chewed through the ropes his hands were tied together with. When he had done this, Faller went on to chew through the ropes of the other three Adepts, and Curmanis silently killed the two Iskars that had been left to guard them. Curmanis then put them on the back of Faller and they went back to the nearest village, where they were brought back to full health.

When the Invasion of Imardin took place he had become an Elder and wanted to be in the front line, fighting the evil forces who had murdered his parents. Craxus felt that Curmanis' anger, however, would do more harm than good in the field, and sent him to help produce the shield that was stopping the forces of The Dark Alliance getting into the city. Curmanis was crushed with this decision, but grudgingly obeyed Craxus' order. On the third day he heard Craxus yelling out "PEN THE GATES NOW!!!"Curmanis wondered what Craxus was thinking, but he trusted him with his life, and did not question him. After all, he was on the other side of the city, what could he have done? People started to run back to the Magical wall that was about to collapse. Curmanis then saw a big bright light flash from the other side of the city. But there was no time to worry about that now. The shield was slowly fading, and they were going to have to come up with something fast or else it would break and The Dark Alliance would take over the city. He got together with the other Magicians and they decided to try an enormous meteor storm to try and break through the Dark Alliances forces. They took up their positions along the wall and all at once chanted the spell that all their hope was depending on. The wall became a weak fence that the army pushed through with ease. But then only seconds after the wall vanishing they comets started to hit the ground and kill almost every creature attacking the city. Since Curmanis used so much of his power to bring about the meteor shower, he became unconscious and woke up two days later in the Healing Room in the Magicians Guild.

Curmanis has since vowed to get revenge on the drow warriors that killed his parents. He lives every moment waiting for his day of vengeance to come. Curmanis very rarely enjoys himself when he is not undertaking his favourite pastime, slaying evil forces
