On this page, I hope to place a list of good BOOKS, AUTHORS and SERIES', as recomended by people making entries here and also on Imaldris' h2g2 page which I am feeling a little responsible for messing up. Sorry.
For a good book club page: Imaldris' page
THE LIST:
Terry Pratchet - author of the illustrious DISKWORLD comedy series, this series is very good and comes highly recommended, though most out will already know this. Each DISKWORLD novel can either be read on its own or along a series line and is inexhaustably re-readable.
David Eddings - author of the Belgariad series and its follow up the Malorean, these books track the life of a boy named Garion to later life as a sorcerer king with a destiny which must be fulfiled. These books have good imagery, a good detailed plot and have a tendency to make you carry on reading despite a need for sleep...
Frank Herbert - author of Dune, one of the best novels I have ever read and everyone I know agrees, if you have not read this book read it now!! The series of which it is part creates an interesting universe at a period of time where all the major powers seem to be in acendency, where one man (Paul Atreides) whose family has been butched as part of the power game and who has been left stranded on a desolate world finds power and purpose and procedes to purge the galaxy in a holy war which combine to set the stage for several millenia of peace ruled by the children of Paul Atreides.
Isaac Asimov - author and co-author of countless futuristic novels dating from about 60 years ago upto present day (his universe is beging added onto even after his death, by fans and fellow novelists around the world). His main universe ties in two seperate genres which were popular when he began writing, these are Robotics and Galactic Empires. most of his early novels deal with one or the other but some of the later novels include both to tie all his books together in one LARGE series. In particular among his later novels the character of Hari Seldon (a human and creator of psycohistory) is all important, whereas throughout, the name of R.Daneel Olivaw (a robot, he is the character that ties the majority of books together) has featured.
