DOT

It is perhaps the most versatile character of them all. It is indispensable in mathematics, computers and of course language. You can not argue the judgement of Samuel Morse. Be it decimal system or URLs, coordinate geometry or Morse code DOT is there to stay.

Imagine reading h2g2DOTcom as h2g2COMMAcom or h2g2COLONcom. Imagine value of pie as threeCOMMAonefour. Imagine reading this entry without the periods. Doesn't make much sense?Dot has also lent a helping hand to other characters such as ? or : or ; and many more

Therefore world without DOT is pointless(pun intended) world.
