Johnnie Walker, Sally Traffic and Drivetime

Hello

This is both a bit of a history lesson about primarily Johnnie Walker, but also Sally Boazman and the BBC Radio 2 Drivetime show

However I have also designed this little guide to be a area for people to come and discuss Drivetime, the music, the guests and the chatter.

Firstly, Johnnie Walker is actually Peter Dingley, and was born on the 30th March 1945.

Part 1 - Johnnie Walker started broadcasting earlier in life under the name Peter Dee, however he only became JW when he started broadcasting for the pirate station Radio England in May 1966. He moved to Radio Caroline South in December, originally as the 'swing jock' where he would cover for the DJ's who were on shore leave. He quickly became a major star and was given the 9pm to midnight slot, as you may know, Johnnie has a very intimate style of broadcasting, and this nightly show was very popular, with 12 million listeners at one point.
Johnnie also has the privilege of going down in legal history as the first DJ to breach the Marine Offences Act. This act was enacted to shutdown the offshore pirate radio stations.
Following his historic broadcast on 14th August 1967, Caroline was only to last another 9 months, until March 1968.
