The Longest Night?

1 Conversation

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the shortest day. That prompted an interesting (well fairly) disscussion around the dinner table - which is the longest night? Is it tonight or yesterday night? Of course this morning's was the latest dawn, and this evening's was the earliest dusk of the year, but was yesterday's dusk later than tomorrow's dawn will be early? Or do we have two longest nights, the earliness of tomorrow's dawn exactly matching the lateness of last night's dusk?
Please help - I may be President of the Universe but I don't know the answer to that one.
