Kriss Kross

A British puzzle magazine, containing about 70 "Kriss Kross" puzzles, and numerous other puzzles such as "Word Search", "Cross Reference" and variations on the theme of "Spot The Difference". "Kriss Kross" is published by British European Associated Publishers Ltd (BEAP) and retails at £1.55 (August 1999). Most people who buy the magazine are retired, ill, incapacitated, bored or going on holiday. It's the sort of thing that a well-meaning acquaintance would buy you if you were stuck in hospital with your leg up in plaster.

The magazine was ideal for train journeys, rainy days, and days when you've got nothing better to do.

Between 1998 and 1999, the magazine underwent the nationwide process known as "dumbing down". Now, not a single testing puzzle remains. You can whizz through the now completely-boring magazine without having to stretch a mental muscle. The famous "Trellis", "Mosaic" and "Grid Work" puzzles, produced by the incredible Mrs E. Timson, have vanished from the pages, sadly replaced by infinitely simpler puzzles, exactly the same as those in the rest of the book. Ah well, there's always Austria.
