The Strokes (Band Information)

1 Conversation

The Strokes are a band with a unique rock sound with a '70s infleunce. They are five New Yorkers with priviledged upbringings; all are the children of those who have made it big in the Big Apple.

The Band Are:
  • Julian Casablancas - Vocals
  • Albert Hammond Jr. - Guitar
  • Nick Valensi - Guitar
  • Nikolai Fraiture - Bass
  • Fabrizio Moretti - Drums

The band have a very distinctive sound, the majority of their tracks have a very definite rhythm and lead guitar parts, with both the rhythm and the bass just playing to simple beats.
The lead part is usually a memorable tune, that gets stuck in your brain. Albert Hammond Jr's '85 Fender Strat Reissue lends itself fantastically to their musical; the single-coils giving a nice bite, whilst the Humbuckers on Nick Valensi's Epiphone Riviera produce fantastic solos.

At present there have been two full albums released; 'Is This It?' released in 2001, and 'Room on Fire' released in 2003. For those new to The Strokes, I recommend listening to these tracks:

  • Last Nite - Is This It
  • Reptilia - Room On Fire
  • 12:51 - Room on Fire
  • Is This It - Is This It
