I'm thinking that new members would be added as Midshipmen, first in the OPEN spots and then a new line, with unfilled spaces as OPEN spots. The squads won't really matter until there are a lot of Midshipmen. I have identified 3 missing members, but the table has 55 filled spaces and the Guild has 59 members, which would fill it if they were all present. I took out the ranks of Sub-lieutenant and NCO. Sub-lieutenant was replaced with Lieutenant, but NCO is gone because it's not intelligent to have about 5 times as many members as diffeent ranks.

To WIRO: If you're going to have people be position rather than rank, then logically tweak the ranks to fit the positions. If someone has a higher position, it's because they deserve a higher rank.

The Problem with using Naval Ranks:

In the navy, there is first an ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET/FLEET ADMIRAL. We don't have a fleet.

Under that there are the ADMIRALs, who give orders from the middle, the VICE ADMIRALs, who give orders from the front, and the REAR ADMIRALs, who give orders from the rear. We don't move in formation, so those positions are useless.

Then you havbe the CAPTAINs, who are the people that run a single ship. We don't use ships. A COMMODORE 1st Class is a Captain who has his own ship and also commands other Captains and their ships. We still don't use ships. A Commodore 2nd class is a Commodore that doesn't own his own ship.

A COMMANDER is a Captain of a vessel that is smaller than what a Full Captain would have. Even still, we don't use ships.

A LIEUTENANT is a Captain's Second in Command/Assistant. There can be more than one Lieutenant.

A LIEUTENANT COMMANDER is a Lieutenant who also commands a small vessel like one that would belong to a Commander.

A SUB-LIEUTENANT is a Lieutenant's assistant.

A MIDSHIPMAN is pretty much everyone else.

For us to use Naval Ranks...

...We'd have to have:

• FLEET ADMIRAL as Guild leader. CHECK
• ADMIRAL as SiC. CHECK
• No VICE ADMIRALS or REAR ADMIRALS. We aren't an army or a fleet.
• No specification between COMMODORE 1st Class and COMMODORE 2nd Class-both would be Second Class. CHECK
• No companies.
• A Division would be led by a COMMODORE (2nd Class).
• A Squad would be led by a CAPTAIN or a COMMANDER.
• Each CAPTAIN would have at least one LIEUTENANT under him.
• Each COMMANDER would have one LIEUTENANT under him.
• A CAPTAIN could have a LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER, and therefore another whole squad, under him.
• COMMANDERs and LIEUTENANT-COMMANDERs would have a Squad each, but they would be smaller squads than a CAPTAIN would have.
• If we were to use SUB-LIEUTENANTS, each one would be right under a LIEUTENANT.
• MIDSHIPMEN would be everyone else. CHECK

Alternatively...

• No FLEET ADMIRAL.
• ADMIRAL as Guild leader.
• No VICE ADMIRALS or REAR ADMIRALS.
• A Company would be led by a COMMODORE (2nd Class).
• A Division would be led by a CAPTAIN or a COMMANDER.
• Each CAPTAIN would have at least one LIEUTENANT under him.
• Each COMMANDER would have one LIEUTENANT under him.
• A CAPTAIN could have a LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER, and therefore another whole Division, under him.
• COMMANDERs and LIEUTENANT-COMMANDERs would have a Division each, but they would be smaller squads than a CAPTAIN would have.
• A LIEUTENANT would command a Squad.
• If we were to use SUB-LIEUTENANTS, each one would be right under a LIEUTENANT.
• MIDSHIPMEN would be everyone else.

Otherwise, there's no reason to use Navy Ranks.
