Sellotape
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
Roll of adhesive strip which will stick to most things. Used occasionally for joining two of these such things. More often used by students for incapacitating colleagues.
There are four main types of Sellotape:
1) Normal Sellotape - Clear (except for when you want it to be), very sticky. Roughly between 10mm and 20mm in width. Can be cut from roll with scissors. Legend suggests it can also be cut with teeth, but this is not advised, unless the user wants pain and a foul taste in their mouth. Students' standard for incapacitating colleagues.
2) Masking tape - Opaque tape, less sticky. While this may seem a foolish concept, masking tape is useful in many situations. Most of which arise when nobody has any proper Sellotape. Can be cut from roll using bare hands, which makes it useless for students.
3) Heavy duty tape/parcel tape - Big, wide tape. Usually black or brown in colour. Very sticky, very very strong. Best cut using scissors/circular saw. Students' Sellotape Holy Grail.
4) Double-sided tape - Also known as "sticky-back plastic". Rarely used by students, but ironically very useful for domestic activities.
