NIMH characters and musicians

You can't help noticing, if you are fanatical about music and NIMH like me, that some of the characters in NIMH bear striking resemblances to some of our greatest loved mucicians/bands. In this case I have found:

Jenner = Paul Di'Anno/Iron Maiden
Justin = Eric Clapton (young)/Cream
Nicodemus = Eric Clapton (old)
Jonathan = Blind Faith

So it's not many, but there are similarities. That's the point of this being here.

JENNER & DI'ANNO/MAIDEN
Paul is the ex Iron Maiden vocalist. Along with the rest of Maiden, he was an ordinary 20 something man. However, it was his vocals that gave IM's music that 'evil' touch. Killers is a great example. The old Maiden stuff was so much more darker than anything since. And Paul supplemented it perfectly. When Bruce Dickinson replaced Paul, the music seemed to reflect the vocalist's voice again. Just as Bruce's voice was higher than Paul's, so the music became, well, just not so evil sounding. It was heavy metal, pure and simple. Listen to, say, Iron Maiden, and then compare it with Invaders. Different?

This brings us to Jenner. The bad boy of NIMH. Jenner refuses to relenquish the comfort of the rosebush for some idiotic plan that would take them to die in some godforsaken wilderness. Or so he says. Bluntly, Jenner can't be arsed to recognise the danger the rosebush is in. We've got everything here, why bother giving it up? That sort of attitude.
Of course, being the evil sod that he is, Jenner is even ready to kill if needs be. Skum. Nothing will get in the way of what he wants.

So that's it. Jenner's personality is reflected by Iron Maiden's first two albums, Di'Anno making the perfect voice-over for Jenner.

JUSTIN & ERIC CLAPTON/CREAM
Personalities aren't so much the thing now. Take a look at Justin. Young, vibrant, witty etc. Everything you'd want your son to end up like (if you lived in Thorn Valley). Then take a shufti at a young Eric Clapton in Cream. Again, young. Again, vibrant etc. More so reflected in the music. Cream's music was something refreshingly new in the 60s, a break from the acoustic torture of The Beatles. I find that the music is almost a reflection of Justin. If Justin sat down and wrote something he could easily come out with Strange Brew. Pure fecking brilliance.

NICODEMUS & ERIC CLAPTON
Turn the clock forward 30 years. In the film, Nicodemus is a wizened old fart, incapable of talking loudly, moving quickly or eating solids. However, with age, he has become something more than what he was. With age has come intelligence and GCSEs. He can work magic and perform technicolour shows that would have Pink Floyd crying in shame. He has become more than what he was.

EC, of course, is a very able man. And, like Nicodemus, his greatness has increased with the years. Along with his music. Eric has reverted to true, honest blues. It has matured. It kicks ass!

JONATHAN & BLIND FAITH
Well here it is solely the music that reads 'Jonathan'. I have made it clear beforehand that Presence Of The Lord could have been written for Jonathan, due to his dying and all. But there's more than just martrydom here. Like Cream, Blind Faith's music is young and explosive, but in a different way. It's sort of like corrupted Cream. And it suits Jonathan in that he is young, he is full of energy, and seeing as we see so little about him, it feels approptriate in another sense too.
In the film, Jonathan is on screen for about 10 seconds. He do not hear him, we know little about him. Anyone speaking about him does so for a fleeting moment. Anyone who watched the film first would not have a clue to who Jonathan was. (Rather like me, I found it rather mysterious and sweet).
Blind Faith existed for less than a year in 1969 before disbanding. Most people haven't heard of them, most people that've heard of them know little about them, and there is not that much to know about them for people who are totally clued up. See the match?
Jonathan Brisby is the coolest character from NIMH, who is not given the appreciation he deserves. Blind Faith is a great band, that was/is not given the appreciation it deserves. Simply, it's a match made in heaven.

By the way, does anyone know any Blind Faith websites? There's a great one by this 'Blueswapper' dude but I've lost the address.
