John O'Groats to Lands End
Created | Updated Nov 22, 2003
In September 2002 I set off with three frinds to ride to Lands End.
Two weeks late we arrived.
This is our story (or at least a summary):
Praying Across the UK
990 Miles Later...
We finished! @ 10am on Monday the 16th September three rather excited bike riders rolled into Lands End and up to the sign post announcing the end of the ride. After a quick photo call, signing of the travelers book and a pray we left the rather barran landscape of the Land's End 'experience' and drove back to Plymouth. Which was nice.
We had:
14.1 days riding
11 punctures
7 comedy falls
6 aching knees
3 bee stings
3 sore bottoms
2 new tryes
2 rainy days
1 rest day (one of the rainy days)
1 retyred rider (day 5)
1 dented rim (repaired in Inverness)
1 exploding rim (Cheltenham, see above)
1 new rim + wheel (Honiton, see above)
1 broken spoke
and a huge amount of prayer on the way.
There were four of us starting on Sunday 1st September in John o'Groats, which was just flat and windy, after a hairy trip on the trains (Watch your bikes on Scotrail!). Sadly Tom was forced to satop after injuring his knee first in Crainlarich and then near Lanark the next day. This ment the prayer team was down to 3, Phil, Katy and myself and we went on, feeling the loss of Tom, all the way to the end. We were amazingly blessed by great weather, good north easterly winds, great health (bar mr T), wonderfull support in accomodation and feeding, preaye and love. Hopefully our ride has shown some people something new about faith.
The charities we are supported are:
Christian Aid
Pied Piper
Mission Aviation Fellowship
And we raised £1660 so we would like to say a big thank you everyone who sponsored us!
