Sousaphone

Most people consider the Tuba to be the lowest and largest brass instrument. It isn't. The lowest is the sousaphone, which isn't likely to be found anywhere other than in America. IT is much larger than a Tba, looking something like a large french horn, where the player sits inside and the bell comes around behind his/her head. It can produce a loer sound than a tuba can.
Not many bands use these instruments, most people will notice its absence in the BBC philamonic orchestra. Like i said it is an american insturment, and lmost exclusivly used there. In my opinion it is rather a useless instrument, as the bass part of any symphony or sonata is clarly taken by the Tuba in the brass family, as it can easily reach any notes below the stave that are written. A lower sound is rather unnecesery, which is perhaps why the Sousaphone hasn't spread out of America.
