Monty Python and the Holy Grail-
The extra's aren't anything special, but the film's probibly one of the greatest comedy movie's ever. The film follows the quest by king arthur to find the holy grail (never would have guessed would you?). Along the way they meet bizarre charecters such as the gay-three-headed knight, sir not-appearing-in-this-film, and of course the kinght's who say NI!
Blade-
This film is superb. Its everything you could ask from an action movie and more. Amazing stunts, although some of the special effects are starting to look a bit dated. The only way to describe the fight sequences is awesome, with samurai swords and vampire's all round. The extra's are pathetic. Don't waste your life looking.
Evolution-
Nice comedy. Nothing special but i only paid a couple of quid for it so for the price i reckon it was worth it. The extra's aren't anything to write home about, but otherwise pretty good stuff.
Starship Troopers-
There are some films that you need to have in your dvd collection, this is one of those films. Lots of fighting and last stands make it stand out from most war films. The defence of wisky outpost can only be described as a modern day zulu. Its a pity that the rest of the dvd falls on its face. Its slow and clunky loading up, and even then its not worth the wait. The director is totally incomprehensable on the commentary and talks so rapidly and continuosly that you'd think this was his last movie. Spend the time you would have wasted looking at the extra's doing something exciting like watching paint dry.
Conan the Barbarian-
I reme, ber watching Conan as a child. It was like a religion. Anytime conan was on nothing would move me from the tele. Then it seemed to disappear for a good few years. I then saw the dvd for a mere 6 quid. It was well worth it and i recently bought the sound track too. Always been a fan for Arnie's and this was one of his first performance's, and in my opinion still one of his best. The combination of James Earl Jones and Arnold Schwarznegger is brilliant. The effects do look dated, but seeing as though the films twenty years old, its not so bad. The dvd extra's are okay. Not great, but okay. There good if your a conan fan.
Dungeons and Dragons-
This film is poor. Why on earth did great actors such as tom baker and richard o'brian do this film at all? There are a few good moments. The sets are amazing and are the best things about the film. The cgi is poor at the best of times, but it does have its moments. At under two hours long its worth a look on budget, but dont expect anything special.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon-
Some people like this film, others dont. Personally i think its superb, and unlike most action films has a viable story. Powerful and moving, its one of the few dvds where the extra's do the movie credit. If you like the film then buy the dvd, the extra's enhance it no end.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show-
Well, if you dont own it then buy it. Go on, go buy it now you fool. The best British comedy in my opinion. And its a musical. I am the sort of person that absolutely hates musicals. Id burn them all if i could. But this ones a masterpeice. With a fantastic cast, great songs, and a tale that can take you so high and so low, what more could you want. The dvd also has a special comedy of an audience doing the shout outs. Fans of the stage show will know what im talking about.
Equilibrium-
Superb film based around george orwells 1984. So much better then Matrix: Reloaded and nearly half the cost. The action sequences rival that of any film ive seen so far and its a shame that it did so badly at the box office. The extra's, while not amazing, are decent and detail bits of the film that the audience would want to know about, such as the amazing gun kata. Also has a 'jump to fight' option, which allows you to go to any of the fights in the film. Worth every penny.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (extended edition)-
The best dvd available. Then again its 4 disc so you expect to get what you've paid for. The extra scenes are amazing and add depth to the film. Things such as the daggers that gimli finds in the second film get there origins in the extended edition of the first. The extra's are a movie in there own right and if your a fan of the movie then spending a day going through the extra's and the film is worth it. Having said that it will take a day to get through, and there are around 9 commentaries from various people. This includes lighting, camera, post production and numerous others that many wont have heard of. Its a good investment however and the film is amazing. Worth the pennies spent.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers-
This isnt the extended edition, but i bought it because i couldn't wait. Extremely good film as you would expect but no extra scenes. There is however a ten minute preveiw of the return of the king. It was worth buying just for that. The extra's are good, but nothing compared with the extended edition of the fellowship of the ring. If your a fan of the film wait and get the extended edition, if your after a good film just buy the normal version.
Red Dwarf: Series 1-
I'm a big red dwarf fan, so when i saw this little gem on the shelf i couldnt help myself. The cast commentary is brilliant, and its worth watching it through once with the commentaries. There's lots of little things to look at and do, such as the deleted scenes, the drunk sequence and the smeg ups. For three hours worth of red dwarf, plus another three when you watch the comentaries, its worth every single penny.
Red Dwarf: Series 2-
Imagine this. I got bought this with the last dregs of cash i had in my bank account. I get home at around 8ish. Now i have red dwarf series two in my hand. But i think 'hay, i havent watched series one for a week, i should watch that first'. so between 8pm and 4am the next day i sit and watch series 1 and 2 back to back, with breaks for tea and munchies. This may seem like a crazy story, and you may also think that its crazy to stay up late just to watch both series back to back. Well i have only this to say. When series three comes out, im watchin all three back to back because the first time round id never laughed so hard in my life!
