Sir Clement Freud: Peter Jones, Derek Nimmo and Kenneth Williams are just some of the dearly departed friends that have sat with me here, only to be ridiculed, put down and humiliated by Nicholas Parsons, who is still with us.
Nicholas: Paul Merton with a Challenge.
Paul: Too many of withs.
Nicholas: Yes Paul, Correct Challenge you have 43 second on the subject 'Dearly Departed Friends'.

Who could be the Book in the film?
Whenever I read the book or see the TV series or listen to the Radio play, I always imagine Peter Jones' voice as the book.

Good point BB. Even Stephen Moore when he read The Restaurant at the end of the Universe, imitated Peter Jones for the Book segments.
How about Donald Sinden. He has a similar delivery to Peter. I would have sais Peter Sallis but all I can see when he does it is Wallace.

Donald Sinden... the name is familiar, but I can't quite place him at the moment... Can you say who he is please?

The father in Bless This House. Played alongside Windsor Davies in that show about rival antique dealers.

Hmmm... I don't know.... Maybe...
I still can't think of anyone other than Mr. Jones in the role.

Well I suppose we could sample the voice these days after all the BBc Radio Phonics Workshop has come a long way since 1978 as have Sound FX as a whole. Just think of all the words he would have said on Just a Minute and the sampling opportunities.
c|_| part 19: Who can we BOOK for the film
Bluebottle Posted Apr 11, 2000
That's true...
And also, how different would the script be for the film? If the same words would be said by the book, then why couldn't Mr. Jones' voice be used?
The trouble is, would it be seen as a mark of respect, or an abuse, similar to "The Trail of the Pink Panther" made two years after Peter Sellers died?

Afternoon gents,
*Pours self a of Grumpfuttocks and takes a long draught*
could have sworn I saw BeerDwarf earlier, I'll leave him a of XXX in case he comes back. They could always use the soundtrack from the radio series as long as they don't want to change too much.

Problem is there were subtle differecnces from Radio, to baook, to television. I'm sure you've notivced. There must surely ahve been plans for more subtle differences for the film which is after all set having to be contempory 20 years after the others.

Bluebottle Posted Apr 11, 2000
I guess it all depends on how subtle the subtle differences will or won't be. But I guess we can only wait to find out.
Oh well, *pours everyone a , or |_|*

|_b Cheers BB. You're right about the subtle differences but at least it's only the voice and dialogue they have to worry about.

Come to think of it, the differences between the radio series / book / TV series aren't actually that subtle.
It occured to me that we could commemorate Mr Jones by having a game of Just A Minute or something going on over h2g2 (rather like the game of Mornington Crescent being played deep within the bowels of h2g2), but then I doubt it'd translate well to our medium... How's about Just a Week?

Demon Drawer Posted Apr 11, 2000
What one week in one forum without defiation, hesitation and repition. That'd be a long week. I think Just a Minute just doesn't transfer easily to a text medium like h2g2 we'd have to play it in a chat room or something.
