La...

Pegasus I understand you believe the line should be replaced to take advantage of the fact "La" is the beginning of "Lager" which is like a European beer thing (to be honest I drink vodka fruit drinks so beer isn't my personal forte as a repository of knowledge).
Still, the thing is in reference to the Homer Simpson version, the La line is there and is repeated for a reason. To fully understand one would need to actually experience Homer singing it, but he has this really blank look on his face (moreso than usual) and he's singing with a beer in his hand.
He gets to "So, I'll have another beer." And then he gets to "La" and you almost see a shrug, but the alcohol poisoning has already set in and the shrug brain cells in his head are too far gone, so he just sings "I'll have another beer."
It's a stupendous moment of intoxication that typifies much of the latter half of the twentieth century for Western Civilization. Truly Nobel Prize winning stuff. And then he starts singing about tea and you cough up an internal organ laughing so hard.
Really. You had to have been there. Honestly..

I thought that the sol-fa was written a LOOOOOOOOOOOONg time before the sound of music, like before radios wre invented. So the songwirter didn't have a chouice about La, just had to add the description of "a note to follow soh". Which is what it is. the next note in the tonic sol-fa. I see nothing unfinished there. I just object to doh being at beginning and end, and yet 8 notes apart. "Bring us back to" a different "doh".

I'm a bit surprised that this question is giving Doug such problems. History shows that he himself would have
once said "La, a place I hate to go" (it's a LosAngeles reference). or perhaps now "La, a place i _have_ to go"
if the new film is ever going to get finished properly.
oh well...

What about changing the rest of it as well!
Doh, I fear I lost myself
Ray, the sun is in my eyes
Me, I think therefore I am
Far to hard to lift a ton
La it's time that we go home
So I know I will survive
Tea well drink and eat some bread
And that brings us back to Doh!
Maybe not quite like this!
I must also point out that I am also tired (it's a good excuse!)
