University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC)

Home of the Slugs
Located on the northwestern corner of the city of Santa Cruz, on
the northern edge of the Monterey Bay. UC Santa Cruz is the youngest campus of the nine-campus University of California system, founded
sometime during the 60's, probably as the result of hallucinatory-fueled proclamations of the rather cabalistic Board of Regents of the university.
Although UCSC still uses the non-grade "narrative evaluation system,"
enabling students to get a full written critique of their coursework, grades are increasingly being offered optionally, mostly to satisfy machines who can't efficently parse qualitative measurements.
Most travellers will usually avoid the area, not because of some
evisceral opposition to the campus itself, but to avoid flocks of large
metallic beasts called "automobiles" which migrate to and from the
area on a daily basis. If one has already tamed one of these beasts,
and is sufficently trained in their handling, it is possible to travel
with the flock without much resistance.
Travellers will take heed of the local "political correctness" customs,
which have caused injuries to those who dared to break them in
public. One must be especially cautious to not say anything which
may be misconstrued as offensive to certain types of indigenious
faune, which may then attack. Local authorities will provide you
with information on the current set of customs, since they will
change regularly.
If you should stumble upon any hippies whilst at UCSC (particularly
if in the Kresge College or Porter College regions), take extra care
to not disturb them. Due to increasing spread of suburban thought
virii from the San Jose area and other regions, hippies are increasingly finding their habitat crowded out by bland suburban infectees as well as a university administration attempting to lure money out of stupid yuppies. Please help to preserve this important natural resource.
