Fluxus was started in 1961 "to confront what is perceived as the triviality of art and to abolish, as best it could, the canonized idioms of the day......for example, an actual Exit sign instead of a painting of one, became a work of art." The Fluxus movement made communal art by mail (snail mail), among the other weapons in its arsenal
