Thankyou!!! Okay here's another (I know the answer, but it foxed a self-confessed fan of theirs, so call it a 'trial' of your powers!): "there's so many different worlds, so many different suns, we have just one world, but we live in different ones ...". (As for Celine, she is the source of much delight (and symphonic wailing) amongst my colleagues. And poor old Red, what can I say?)

OK OK Brothers in Arms.. You know the spooky thing I went to the right album, put on the right side (of the cassette he says showing his age and not admitting he looked for it in the LP collection first) and it was on the right track!! luckily it wasn't exactly the right place on the right track or I might have had a heart attack, serves me right for spooking newbies!!(only works if they haven't given themselves a name yet)

And I thought you were only kidding! I was going to make some sarcastic comment about vinyl after your previous entry, but thought better of it. Unfortunately, given the same circumstances, finding my LP would not be much help, unless it's got the words on the sleeve, as I don't have a record deck (makes listening to 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' kinda difficult). I'm waiting for the Mark Knopfler/Celine Dion duet, so I can go out and not buy it. 'The boy can play' but he sure can't sing.
I only decided on my name today, and then promptly changed my mind. Still searching. I'm outta touch. It's a long long way to Tipperary...

Hey I know a really long winded joke about that , This guy has this really rare bird called a rarey but it gets too big and aggressive so he decides to get rid of it and tries various methods (hence the long winded bit) but it keeps coming back so he ties it up and puts it in a wheelbarrow and takes it to the White Cliffs of Dover where he means to send it over the edge but at the last minute he changes his mind because "it's a long way...."
there was a thing about the Beatles Yellow Submarine on the radio today and it occured to me that "The Blue Meanie " might be a good name, but actually I think " Changed my Mind " is cool, quite enigmatic! Good singing doesn't mean good music , Celine is technically great but she's so busy showing how good she can sing she forgets the songs are complete pants! whereas Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Johnny Rotten sound like cement mixers full of nails but IMHO are beyond compare

Actually, I think you misspelt that reference to Ms Dion. Didn't you mean 'technically grate'?! Other 'singers' in the same class include Billy Bragg, Barry (well, actually any singers whose names begin with Barry, that I can think of) and me. I've wowed my work colleagues with my impersonation of Celine, but it's only cause I used to have a cat. Perhaps if she sang something decent she'd be more palatable. What was that song called? Oh yes, it's all coming back to me now ... (pass me a bucket please).

Love Billy Bragg ( The Milkman of Human Kindness), Saw him at Glastonbury, a consumate entertainer , does a great Show (sometimes ) on Radio 2 on a Saturday afternoon on radio 2. are you including Mr "Dancing on a Saturday Night" Barry Blue in that?

Sorry you've got me on that one. Billy Bragg - great songs, shame about the voice?

By the way, did you mean the show is sometimes great or it's sometimes on Radio 2 (on a Saturday)?

Our Bill stepped in to replace the naughty Johnny Walker but is kind of a guest DJ and only does the show sometimes. The other DJ in this spot is Tom (sing if you're glad to be gay)Robinson. As to the voice question you got to figure its well suited to singing angry protest songs about about miners strikes and powers of unions! Apparently he was going to be a folk singer then saw the Clash, but I guess he still is a folk singer really anyway. He actually sings very sweetly (hard to believe I know !) when he wants to (see "Wish You Were Her"(clever that!) on 1991 album "Don't try this at home") Now if you want to hear a REALLY GRATE singer check out Documentary about Captain Beefheart tonight on BBC2(part of the John Peel evening for his 60th birthday)
Good Curry?
By the way I see in the Sundays that Douglas Adams is going to be doing a radio show on radio 4 on WEdnesday about the internet which might be interesting. (Sorry about all the brackets!)

60th birthday huh? Was that John Peel or Captain Beefheart or both (or are they actually one and the same?) I'm not sure I could listen to John's monotonous monotones for long, although I do believe he can be quite sharp. (I think brackets are a great invention, not just to hold up shelves but also for supporting conversations). It's a shame no one's come up with any more elusive songs yet. (Yes, it was a nice curry, thankyou).

Er I seem to a bit ambiguous in my old age don't I , Its Peelys birthday, I'm quite into monotonous, one of my fave bands was the Smiths (to keep the musical nature of this forum going) Not quite the same thing as elusive song titles but you wouldn't know the classical piece of music used on the BBC education trailers on TV? the one where they show various members of the public and the voice over says"He learned Spanish, She learnt Brain Surgery" Well something like that (guess what the Smiths just came on TV doing "This Charming Man!!) I'll have to see the ad before I can put out a general question to the H2G2 Question answering thingy

What are you watching/am I missing? I don't watch TV much, as I prefer something a bit more active or interactive. Yes, I know TV's educational, and it would probably help with my course-work if I managed to watch my OU programmes, but as I'm usually busy/working/avoiding studying when the things I want (or need) to watch come on, I have to video them, and then of course I never watch them. I reckon I've got a collection of about 200 recordable videos now, but I can never find a 'blank' one to use. But this is drifting away from the subject.
I'm glad you've already described the Smiths as monotonous (being a fan), as I'm sure I would have got round to Morrisey sooner or later (actually Morrisey and C.D. - there's a duet for you). Due to reasons stated above, I don't know which piece of music you mean, but I will listen out for it and try to let you know (as if I'd know anyway!)

How do you do that? When I look, you're not logged on, then you suddenly appear and answer me!

I'm suppposed to be working but every so often I can't resist checking to see what's going on and when I reply I often log off to conserve the phone bill (I can barely say those words without a little shiver of fear!) also I can check my crappy typing at my leisure, (they should have a spell checker on this thing)
You can still go back to the prevous page to refer to the original message without reconnecting.Anyway back to work!
