Umbrellas

being soaked. They consist of a broad, largish piece of plastic (or other
substances) with wires between them. The wires are connected to a holder
which enables you to push the holder towards the end of the umbrella (thus
causing it to open) or to pull it towards you (thus causing it to close).
The rainwater runs off the sheet of plastic and onto the floor, leaving
you as dry as a piece of baked bread (assuming that you are standing under
the umbrella).
Never use a paper umbrella in the rain, as you will soon find yourself
as wet as a fish. Paper unbrellas are for blocking out sunshine, which is
a thoroughly ridiculous thing to do, and if put in heavy rain, the paper
may tear.
