Swedish moonshine

2 Conversations

Moonshine the unofficial national drink of Sweden!

In Sweden its illegal to
distill your own liquor. But when the taxes are too high at Systembolaget (the
government owned liquor store) many people distill their own liquor anyway,
most of those who doesn't buy it from those who does. 70cl 40% in Systembolaget
costs at least 25 US dollars. One 1L 40%+ moonshine costs as most 12,5 US dollars.
So why we drink it I suppose you can understand!

The Government made an research of how much moonshine we drink in Sweden. They
came up with that a 1/3 of all strong liquor that people drink (included in
restaurants and bars) is illegal. But what do they do? In stead of lower the
taxes, because then so many would become alcoholics, they do a commercial that
says -If you drink moonshine you support the organized crime, so if we buy it
will result in the down fall of the society. Well everybody I know who distill
their own moonshine is ordinary citizens who have jobs and just earn a little
extra cash or just distill for their own personal use.

So my conclusion is GOVERNMENT think twice!

If you are interested in how to distill your own moonshine you could go to
http://www.tcfb.com/alcohol/moonshinestill.htm I don't know if the page is so
good I just looked through it fast, but it seems to be pretty good.
