Stoke on Trent, Staffs, UK ( The Potteries )

1 Conversation

Within the forum, someone queries, 'Surely you have only told half the story ', which as a born and bred 'STOKEY' is quite true. Not only are we famous for Pottery, of which we have numerous, such as Wedgewood, Spode, Doulton and numerous smaller and less well known, we are famous as the birth place for Reginald Mitchell, the inventor of the Spitfire, Captain Smith of Titanic fame, oh and of course Robbie Williams ( not of American comedian fame, thats Robin Williams, but of Take That and now a successful solo artist ).

As mentioned in the forum, we have an excellent Pottery Museum in the Gladstone Pottery at Longton, an excellent Musuem in Hanley, and soon to be a new exhibit in Burslem which I beleive is to be called CERAMICA.

What about literature, well theres Arnold Bennett, and thats where all the argument about the five or six towns comes in. Many will say that the towns to the best of my knowledge are....Burslem, Tunstall, Hanley, Stoke and Longton, and thay are the five towns that form the Potteries. Well as you can see we have alot to offer here, just a quick trip of the M6 at either junction 15 or 16, and if you get bored with us then you can also visit the great grassed areas around such as the Peak District, which of course gives you acces to areas such as Buxton and Matlock, which in turn have great attractions such as the Blue John Mines, the list is endless;

Oh yes we've got Alton Towers if you find nothing else to do.
