Cats is not the all-time Tony record holder. That would be The Producers, with 12 wins.

The opening number ('Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats') is also partially credited to Nunn for the lyrics, but it's less noteworthy than his work on 'Memory'. Richard Stilgoe is also credited with 'additional lyrics' for the opening number.

Thanks, David, that's the reason why I said which source I got the information from, it's always an indication that it has to be checked.

I know. smiley - smiley

Definitely a good point about making sure that it's clear that the 'over 9,000 performances' relates only to London. I dread to think how many performances it has recieved worldwide. smiley - headhurts

Hi Opti,

This is now extremely close to being ready. The only bit that still worries me is the sentence you've just added - 'To date there have been over 9,000 performances in London alone, the very first performance of Cats ever, opening with a bomb scare.' which is oddly punctuated and looks rather obviously tacked on to the end of the History section.

If I were you I'd cut that sentence and put the bit about the bomb scare at the start of the paragraph, when you first mention the opening night. Perhaps you could say something like this:

'The musical's premiere involved some unscripted drama. There was a bomb scare at the opening night on 11 May, 1981, at the New London Theatre, Drury Lane. However, Cats was an immediate success, and went on to open on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on 7 October, 1982. The original production team was made up of Trevor Nunn as director, associate director and choreographer Gillian Lynne, designer John Napier and David Hersey who dealt with the lighting...'
