Ever wondered where your remote controls go to? Ever had an object completely disappear never to be seen again, or to turn up years later?
If so, you've probably experienced Ballistic recoil.
Ballistic recoil occurs when a tear in the space time continuum is formed and objects are pulled through into another dimension.
This then creates an unbalanace between the two universes, much like the unbalance between a positive and a negative atom. The mass of one has increased and the mass of the other has decreased.
The unbalance causes an attraction between the two dimensions and eventually the equal amount of mass as was lost from the original will be drawn back in some form or another, balancing the mass of the two universes..
This phenomenon can be observed in the home when household objects such as inexplicably disappear.
