Voter apathy & The Cult of Self!

0 Conversations

The voter apathy that has been recognised in recent elections within England and Wales, is I reckon, down to the Consumerist society we live in, and what I have termed, "The Cult of Self".

Now the, "cult of self" is in essence, a very similar animal to that of the, "cult of celebrity".

Only in the case of the, "cult of self", instead of someone focusing and modelling themselves on a Celebrity, who is all, me, me, me, the person themselves becomes the celebrity, all be it only to themselves; which leads to self indulgent behaviour in all manner of forms, which will focus more and more on a lifestyle of me, me, me.

That pretend celebrity lifestyle is fuelled in parts by the infatuation of celebrities by the media, and also the consumerist society we live in throwing all manner of products at us 24/7 in order for us to look like, or rather be, "CELEBREITIES" in our own eyes, or those of our friends.

It's all immitation and none-real personalities trying to get noticed.
